Reality vs fiction, some may say not really a survival advantage, but when you think about it and replace a few words it actually is an advantage even back in the hunter gatherer ages.
To be able to distinguish what you actually see from what you perceive to see, is the ability to see a hidden predator from the bushes under the tree. Perception to be exact.
The inability to plainly see the camouflaged predator makes you unable to see an incoming ambush from even up close. Thus bye-bye you.
Correlating perception to seeing reality from fiction or vice versa, to be able to see the lies in a photo, video, or even a simple message can go a long way, to not see it can cost you. This day-n-age the ability to perceive the lies from the reality is all the more important then ever before, if you cant see the lies you will be tricked into whatever they tells ya to, either lying about the news, the politics, the science, the finances, or even about your personal life. your inability to perceive fiction, lies, and misdirection's will cost you so much now than if you were simply trying to find a nail in a hay stack. Thats how much the ability is needed nowadays.
To be able to see what's art and what's reality is important as well, you cant just look at the news about an attack and say theres nothing wrong with it, you have to look at it closely and with a keen eye, you might find out that its just some video footage taken from a video game that looks pretty close to reality.
Same goes with obscene art, for example if you cant tell the difference between art of a dog, and a photo of a real dog, you will fail to realize that the colors are all off in the art of a dog, you will also fail to realize the photo of the real dog was taken about 25 years ago and the news organization is showing them both off and saying they're the same dog, all about a dog that looks completely different and is just a puppy.
Do you see how crazy somethings can get now?
As we grow ever closer to being able to virtualize reality, we grow closer to being unable to see reality from fiction, when that line is crossed our own natural ability to see fiction from reality is crushed under the amount of things that look just like reality, when in-fact it is all fiction. To not use the ability to distinguish reality from fiction is like calling to the dragons of old and expecting to hear their roar and a sighting of them, basically impossible to see reality from fiction, and people who dont see are doomed to follow mindlessly into an abyss of lies and deceit, unable to crawl back out for help.
See reality from fiction, see the lies in the news, see the truth in the insanity, see that predator in the trees, your life depends on it.
